International Travel & Health Insurance Conferences

The ITIC Connected agenda is live!

ITIC Global | Connected - 3-5 November 2020

So what do we have in store?

There is no escaping that the landscape of our industry has altered dramatically and the impact of coronavirus continues to change the way we operate. We have curated a series of sessions to offer expert insights, provide a platform for discussions, and offer an opportunity to create shared solutions to the challenges we face. Insightful sessions, inspiring speakers, interactive forums and, of course, a whole host of networking events…

Expert insights at ITIC Connected

Each year, we work with an advisory panel of industry leaders to curate the topics that are covered on the ITIC agenda, drawing from the challenges they encounter and the issues they know are key. Here are the topics we will address at ITIC Global | Connected 2020

Coronavirus – reactions, impacts, future risks and lessons learned

Coronavirus is front and centre as we take stock of how the global travel and health insurance industry responded to the immediate widescale repatriation and medical assistance required following the announcement of Covid-19 as a global pandemic and the ensuing travel lockdowns. We’ll look at the resulting adaptations to policies in response to consumer demand that we have seen across the insurance market in recent months. Lessons have been learned around the world and we will be discussing risk vs reality, the widespread uptake of telemedicine and what global healthcare might look like in the future as a result.

Medical Director’s Forum

With 2020 being sure to go down in history as one of the most difficult years ever for international medical assistance providers, the Medical Directors’ Forum at ITIC Connected provides an opportunity for medical directors from around the world and across sectors to exchange best practice protocols, share lessons learned through their own experiences, and discuss how the industry can come out of the Covid-19 pandemic with stronger customer solutions that enable great patient care and balance the books.

International Provider Networks Forum

The International Provider Networks Forum encourages payers and providers to work together and create productive network relationships; there has never been a more crucial time to collaborate. Open communication between insurers and medical providers on the pros and cons of telemedicine and managing network relationships with lower patient volumes are just a sample of what will be on the table this year.

Fraud

Insurers’ bottom lines are under serious pressure this year, and keeping a close eye on billing practices, whilst always essential, is going to be crucial to recovery going forward. Tackling fraud in all its guises is one solution that should be in your company’s tool-kit, and with technology developing at a rapid pace, scammers are finding new ways to hit their mark. We will be looking at fraud hot-spots for the travel insurance industry to be aware of and the best tactics to identify and stop fraudsters in their tracks.

Industry challenges in Mexico and the Caribbean

A strong awareness of regional challenges, ensuring you have the right local partners, and knowledge of which typical methods of cost containment are – and are not – effective is invaluable no matter where in the world you do business. We will be providing insights on the complexities of medical networks, billing and other unique operational considerations to take into account if your area of operation includes the unique Mexico and Caribbean regions.

Cruises

Whilst cruises are unlikely to set sail for much of the remainder of the year, the popularity of cruise holidays is likely to return, so insurers, assistance companies and air medical providers need to be prepared for a sudden and dramatic increase in cruise passengers numbers. We will consider ongoing issues in medical care onboard and difficulties of providing travel assistance in remote locations, together with the industry’s new protocols.
